Acne is so annoying to deal with. It’s a skin condition that shows up in the form of pimples, or cysts. They usually appear on your face, so the whole world can see. Many teens suffer from acne due to hormonal changes during puberty. Adult onset acne is not uncommon. Acne will effect just about everyone at some point in their life. But, what is the real cause of acne and how can it effectively be treated?

Our pores contain sebaceous glands that make sebum, an oil that lubricates the skin and hair. However, if the sebaceous glands make more sebum than they should (usually during hormonal changes), the pores become clogged and if bacteria gets trapped, you will get redness and swelling, or a pimple. A pimple occurs when the pore is open allowing sebum, bacteria, and dead skin cells to get trapped under the skin, and in result, causing a bacterial infection.

Coconut oil for acne is a great treatment. It’s all natural and will not clog your pores. There are many sufferers of acne, including my 13 year old daughter. We have been to doctor after doctor and not one has been able to help. To date, we have been to 5 dermatologists and I refuse to go to anymore. Who knew that something 100% natural was the solution!! Coconut oil will keep your skin healthy and will ensure proper functioning of the sebum glands to clear blockages. Daily use of coconut oil for acne will help heal the acne marks left on your face.

Coconut oil contains large amounts of lauric acid which is good for treating bacterial, fungal, and viral infections. In fact, breast milk contains lauric acid which helps to prevent infections in babies. Acne is a bacterial infection under the skin and the lauric acid will help treat it when applied or when consumed. Remember, it will not clog your pores and will help heal any acne scars you may have.

Coconut oil also contains medium chain fatty acids which are unique and will protect your skin from a bacterial infection when applied topically. It will also speed up the healing of acne spots. Other oils contain long chain fatty acids which do not have the same properties as the coconut oil. Long chain fatty acids will not easily penetrate the skin and will clog the pores. Because these medium chain fatty acids are present along with the lauric acid, your acne will be under control while beginning its healing process.

My daughter applies it to her face at night after she washes. So far, so good. It’s beginning to clear and I see more confidence in her. I apply coconut oil to my face at night to help moisturize my skin. There are other uses for coconut oil other than acne. It can moisturize dry skin, prevent dryness and flaking, good for dandruff, delays wrinkles and sagging skin, helps treat psoriasis, eczema, other skin infections, and best of all, it helps prevent premature aging!! I wish I knew of coconut oil before, but at least I know of it now and it really works great.
