Introduction
Almost 50 million people will develop acne, with most of this population being teenagers. One of the big concerns people have when they develop acne is will it leave a scar.
All types of acne will not leave a scar, but there are two specific conditions that may leave an acne scar.
How A Scar Forms
To fully understand how acne leaves scars, it is best to understand how a scar develops. If the skin is broken near the surface of the skin, the skin will normally heal without leaving a scar. If the skin is broken below the epidermis layer, at the dermis layer, then a scar will develop.
Most acne scars are atrophic scars that are deep scars as a result of missing tissue. These atrophic scars can develop from two processes.
Disturbing The Acne
To reduce the chances of scarring caused by acne, avoid picking or squeezing the pimple. By squeezing or picking at the pimple, you increase the chances of spreading the inflammation further into the dermis, spreading the infection to healthy tissue increasing the chances of scarring.
It is best to leave the acne or pimple alone, but if you want to speed up the process by which the acne goes away, you can put some Visine on the acne.
Put some Visine on a cotton swab, then dab it on the pimple, and allow to dry. This will help speed up the removal of the pimple naturally, without scarring.
Inflammation
Scarring from acne is most commonly caused by inflammation of the affected sites. This is identified by a redness of the infected areas, which usually resembles a rash. The longer this inflammation stays without healing, the more scarring that can occur and the deeper the scarring.
This scarring usually does not occur with blackheads or whiteheads since they usually do not become inflamed. However, pimples can easily become inflamed and leave this type of scarring.
If you develop this condition, you should visit a dermatologist to help you fight this condition. Your doctor can prescribe some creams to help fight the inflammation.
For permanent action, you will need to look at your diet.
Inflammation is usually a result of the immune system over reacting to the infected area by attacking not only the healthy tissue, but also healthy tissue.
The immune system can become over active by having too much inflammation in the body caused by an imbalance of Omega – 6 to Omega – 3. To bring this into balance, your diet should be reduced in the amount of process foods you eat. Instead of process foods and saturated fats, consume more foods that are prepared in their natural state, such as vegetables, whole grains, unsaturated fats and cold-water fish.
Since cold-water fish may contain mercury, you may want to take Omega – 3 fish oil supplements instead.
Conclusion
Most acne will not result in scarring, but if you squeeze it or your acne becomes inflamed, then there are good chances you will develop scarring. To prevent scarring do not squeeze your acne and if it is inflamed, see your doctor.
